This commercial has Kevin Keegan and Henry Cooper and will appeal to a lot of males as they were among to top English sportsmen of that time. Kevin Keegan was a top footballer who captained the England international team from 1976-1982 and would of been loved by many football fans at the time. Henry Cooper was a heavyweight boxer and nothing gets more manly that that! Having him in the advert definitely makes Brut seem like something every male would be proud to use.
Another advert that Brut used starred Paul 'Gazza' Gascoigne and everyone knows him as being one of England's great footballers.
The advert has him apply Brut aftershave and then go outside to a construction site where he conducts all the workmen with a wrench to have them make a tune from the equipment they are using. This is seen as manly as all the construction workers are using tools. Using Paul Gascoigne was also a very good idea as many people really look up at him as he was one on England's greatest footballers at the time.
The third commercial I looked at starred Kelly LeBrock, an actress and supermodel. In the advert she explains what is good in a man and ends on how he smells. Then a screen pops up with Brut 'THE ESSENCE OF MAN.'
Kelly LeBrock is used in this advert as she was one of the top models at the time and would of been the ideal women for a lot of men. This would catch their attention and then to see she's advertising Brut as 'the essence of man' will make them want to use it. These 3 commercials show that Brut advertising was made as 'manly' as possible!
